Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis)
„A traditional herb with a gentle lemon scent that helps calm the mind and restore a sense of balance.“
🌿 How it helps
Lemon balm is a trusted helper for everyday stress and mental strain:
- Calm mind: Helps with inner restlessness, tension or scattered thoughts.
- Better sleep: Supports falling asleep and deeper, undisturbed rest.
- Easier digestion: Helps relax mild cramps in the digestive tract and supports stress-affected digestion.
🍵 How to use it
- Tea / infusion: Pour boiling water over 1–2 teaspoons of the dried herb and steep for 10 minutes.
- Fresh in the kitchen: Leaves add freshness to summer drinks, salads and desserts.
- Tincture: Practical for use during the day.
☀️ Where to find it and when to harvest
- Where it grows: Commonly grown in gardens and balcony pots. Prefers sunny to partly shaded spots.
- When to harvest: Leaves and stems are harvested before flowering (usually June to July), ideally in the morning once the dew has dried.
⚠️ Keep in mind
Lemon balm is generally very safe. It slightly lowers blood pressure, so people with low blood pressure should be careful. It may strengthen the effect of strong sedatives.
